The Course
Welcome to Limerick Golf Club, a distinguished tree-lined 18-hole course that has stood proudly on its present site for over a century. For more than 100 years, the course has been an integral part of the sporting and social fabric of the region, offering generations of members and visitors a setting defined by maturity, character and timeless design.
A particularly significant chapter in our history came in 1927, when the renowned architect Alister MacKenzie made an important contribution to the course's design. Dr. MacKenzie's philosophy — that a course should blend naturally with its surroundings, reward thoughtful strategy and remain enjoyable for golfers of all abilities — continues to resonate in the layout today. His influence can be seen in the subtle green complexes, strategic bunkering and the thoughtful balance between challenge and playability that define the character of the course.
In 2025, the club embarked on a significant programme of course renovation and remodelling to ensure that this historic layout continues to thrive well into its second century. This work was overseen by Ken Kearney of Kearney Golf Design with the renovation and remodelling works being expertly carried out by Atlantic Golf Construction. Extensive drainage works were undertaken throughout the property, greatly enhancing year-round playability. Five new USGA greens were constructed, carefully integrated into the existing landscape, while 26 of the course's 41 bunkers were completely remodelled and the remaining bunkers refreshed to ensure uniform presentation and performance. Today, all bunkers offer consistency in design and playability, finished with the same top-quality Breslin white sand.
These works represent a careful balance between preservation and progress — respecting the architectural heritage of the course while investing in modern standards of conditioning and sustainability. The result is a course that honours its rich past while providing members and visitors with an outstanding contemporary golfing experience with excellent consistency of greens during the golfing season.
