J.P. McManus Pro-Am
Limerick Golf Club was the original host of the J.P. McManus Invitational Pro-Am, one of Europe's most famous charity pro-am golf tournaments. Here's a short summary of its history at Limerick Golf Club:
- The tournament began in 1990 at Limerick Golf Club, with the Amateur-Professional format raising funds for local charities in the Mid-West of Ireland.
- It was staged three times at Limerick Golf Club — in 1990, 1995 and 2000.
- The event attracted many high-profile professional golfers and celebrities; the 2000 event included Tiger Woods, who won that year, and raised significant charitable funds.
- Because the tournament grew in size and popularity, it subsequently moved to The Golf Course at Adare Manor (2027 Ryder Cup venue) from 2005 onward to accommodate larger crowds and a bigger course.
While the modern-day iterations of the event are held at Adare Manor, Limerick Golf Club is historically important as the original and early host of the J.P. McManus Invitational Pro-Am.
