Alister MacKenzie
At Limerick Golf Club, we are immensely proud to be able to reference Alister MacKenzie as having made a significant contribution to the design of our golf course. Dr. MacKenzie is widely regarded as one of the greatest golf course architects in the history of the game, having designed Augusta National, Cypress Point and Royal Melbourne as well as renowned courses in Ireland such as Lahinch and Cork Golf Club. MacKenzie had a philosophy centred on strategic design, natural beauty and enjoyment for players of all abilities.
To be associated with a designer whose legacy includes some of the most celebrated golf courses in the world is a source of tremendous pride for our Club and its members. His influence is reflected in the subtle contours, thoughtful routing and strategic challenges that continue to define the character of our course today.
Dr. MacKenzie believed that a great golf course should test the skilled player while remaining playable and enjoyable for the average golfer — principles that remain at the heart of Limerick Golf Club. His contribution is not just a historical footnote; it is an enduring part of our identity and a legacy we are honoured to uphold.
Limerick Golf Club is a proud member of the Alister MacKenzie Society of Great Britain & Ireland.
